The Skinny Bitch: A Review
A strictly vegan eating lifestyle is what The Skinny Bitch is all about. Literally, the book requires readers to take away meat, chicken, egg and dairy products on their meals. Since most of us are used to have meat and poultry products on their table everyday, this is a real challenge.
Let me highlight the major good side of the book:
- Although dairy products are prohibited, the authors made suggestions on substitutes.
- The book pointed out specifically the bad ingredients of certain foods and how it affects the body. In the same way, the bad effects of meat, chicken and other dairy products were also listed and explained well.
- The book highlights the processes undergone by poultry products before it goes to our plates. For example, it listed “quoted statements” from people who worked in the meat industry.
- In one side, the book calls for environmental awareness. By being vegan, we are in turn playing our part in stopping animal cruelty.
- The book encourages each consumer to be smart buyers by reading food labels. Read credible sources about food nutrients and how it affects the human body.
- The book is presented in a straightforward and concise manner.
Here are several reasons why one should take a moment to think before buying the book:
- The book recommends fasting. The authors claim that our stomach needs a break periodically to detoxify. This is quite disturbing. Based on basic human anatomy, our body is build with natural means of detoxification. We have our organs to do that work so fasting is not really necessary. Fasting also is not at all recommended for people with special conditions like pregnant women, diabetics, with liver and kidney disease and active people who cannot afford to skip a single meal. Fasting most often cause irregular heartbeat, headaches, fatigue and nausea.
- The book is presented in such a way that it is not formal and too vulgar. The words don’t seem to fit with the concept of the book. Well, this could be amusing for others but let us remember that books are supposed to educate readers with good information.
- Like most weight loss books, the lists of food suggestions are not readily available in most cases for other people. If you are to become a vegan, you should seem to be ready with your budget since organic foods are usually available in specialty stores.
I guess it would be better for us to do our own research online with more credible sources. With that we can have more choices of good food at cheaper price. It would take some effort but it would be the same if you are to read books that in turn you will not be satisfied at all.
