The Cabbage Soup Diet

The Cabbage Soup Diet is designed to be utilized for seven days at a time, and no longer. When you want to repeat the diet, it is essential that you wait at least two weeks. This helps to ensure that you are remaining healthy while you watch the pounds come off. This diet involves eating as much cabbage soup as you want, while really narrowing down the rest of the food that goes into your mouth during the seven day period. Before you begin the diet, you should be sure to cook up a huge pot of cabbage soup, just so you have plenty the first few days. Depending on how much of it you eat, you may need to make a second pot partway through the week. Here is a look at what is in store during your week on the diet:

On the first day, you may eat only fruit. You can pick any kind of fruit except for bananas, and eat away. Be sure to eat some of your soup as well. When you need something to quench your thirst, give unsweetened tea, water and cranberry juice a try.

The second day is a change of pace from the first, and you do not eat fruit. Rather, you are supposed to eat a variety of vegetables. You can cook them or you can eat them raw or fresh. It is up to you. However, it is recommended that leafy green vegetables are eaten abundantly on this day, and that vegetables with high amounts of starch (dry beans, corn and peas) are avoided. When dinnertime rolls around, you are allowed to indulge in a big baked potato and top it with butter.

On day three, you go with a combination of the first two days. This means that you can enjoy all of the soup, fruits and vegetables that you can handle. Unfortunately, there is no baked potato, but you can stuff yourself on the other foods of the day.

The fourth day is completely different. On this day, you are supposed to eat as many bananas as you can (up to 8) and drink as much skim milk as you would like. The combination of these two foods is meant to take away your sweet tooth and help you to get through the last few days of the diet.

On the fifth day of the cabbage soup diet, you are to eat beef and tomatoes. It is important to also eat the soup at least one time. The tomatoes should be fresh. For the meat, you can substitute broiled or baked (with no skin) chicken for the beef if you would prefer. On one of the beef days, you can also substitute broiled fish. On this day, it is essential to purge your body of uric acid by drinking lots of water. Be sure to take in at least 6 glasses, preferably 8 or more.

When you reach the sixth day, the end is definitely in sight. You eat all of the beef that you’d like, and enjoy lots of green, leafy vegetables. The meat can even be a couple of steaks if that is what you like to dine on. It is essential to also eat a bowl of your soup.

The final day of the diet comes with a new food to use to eat as much as possible: brown rice. Eat a combination of the rice, vegetables and unsweetened fruit juice. Use the soup to help you feel full.
